If regular relationships have challenges, long-distance relationships have twice as many. Being so far away from our significant other can be hard, especially for long periods of time. There are doubts, arguments, and loneliness. Despite all these, we must remain steadfast in our faith and put God at the center of our relationship. With His Word as the foundation, our relationship will last no matter how many miles are between us if we are with the right person. These long-distance relationship prayers can help us stay rooted in God and remain faithful to each other until we finally happily reunite.
Long distance relationship prayers
A prayer for my boyfriend
Our Most Loving God,
I pray to You with a heart aching for the presence of my boyfriend, whom I miss very much. I miss seeing his face light up whenever he talks about his favorite things and how we both work so well as a team and couple. We rarely see each other in person, but I carefully and lovingly cherish the moments we share.
Although my heart breaks whenever I am reminded of the distance between us, I surrender my heart to You, O Lord, and pray that You will nurture our relationship despite all odds.
The love we have is imperfect, but it is genuine and true; not time nor distance can extinguish its flame. You are at the center of our relationship, O Lord, and our relationship shall endure because of the strength of our faith in You.
Heavenly Father, I beg You to hear my prayer.
Amen.
A prayer for my girlfriend
Loving Heavenly Father,
I pray for strength in my relationship with my girlfriend. The miles between us make things challenging, but I pray that You will guide us and keep us strong for each other. We may not be able to meet in person as often as we’d like, but I know that as long as we love each other just as You love us, no obstacle is too great.
Keep her safe and watch over her, especially now that I am not physically with her. I look forward to seeing and holding her again, but for now, I will content myself with the beautiful memories we share until we meet again soon.
This I lovingly pray in the Most Holy Name of Jesus,
Amen.
Short prayer for a long distance relationship
Everlasting God,
Although my significant other and I are far apart, we join together in this prayer for a long-distance relationship. May our faith strengthen the love we share, and may it endure like a resilient flame in a merciless storm. May the thread of Your mantle keep us tied as one no matter the distance. Our love may be imperfect; but there is no feeling, no experience, or no dream more beautiful than to love and be loved.
Amen.
The Word of God
So Jacob served seven years for Rachel, and they seemed to him but a few days because of his love for her.
Genesis 29:20 NRSVUE
Therefore what God has joined together, let no one separate.
Mark 10:9 NRSVUE
For surely I know the plans I have for you, says the Lord, plans for your welfare and not for harm, to give you a future with hope.
Jeremiah 29:11 NRSVUE
Intercessory prayer to Saint Valentine
Gracious Saint Valentine,
Blessed is your name, and great is your love for your brethren, for it has encompassed many lost couples and helped them regain stability through the Lord.
As my soul is once again stained by my trespasses, may you pray for my redemption, pardon, and improvement. May the Lord God, who gloriously sits upon His judgment seat, look upon me with mercy and set me free from the burden of my sins and guilt. How wonderful it is to know that despite all my flaws, the Lord is ever gracious and merciful; and offers me the gift of eternal life through Jesus Christ. I wholly place my life in His hands, for I know that He alone can save me from my own wretchedness.
I cannot thank Him enough for the joys of my life, for every little blessing and experience that molded me into the person I am today. For as long as I live, I am grateful for His provision, guidance, and protection as I go about my daily tasks. Most of all, I thank Him for helping me meet the love of my life and deepen the affection we have. When I look back, I realize how amazing His works truly are; and I place my full trust in His plans for me and my significant other.
May You carry my prayers to the ears of the Lord, so He can hear my plea. Saint Valentine, join me in reverent prayer as I wish for a long-lasting relationship with the person I love most, despite the distance that sets us apart. There are challenges to our relationship, but I know that we will be strong enough for each other. Help us strengthen not only our love for each other but also our love for God. Our faith in Him is what fuels our passions, and it will keep the fire of our affections burning despite the obstacles. This obstacle will not be the last, but all will be well as long as we have each other and God.
Saint Valentine, pray for us. Amen.
Further reflection
Distance hurts. As humans, we crave touch and face-to-face interaction. Long-distance relationships can be challenging because of the lack of in-person connection. With the rise of social media and the Internet, it may seem like no big deal. But in reality, being physically apart can put a wedge in any relationship, which is why it’s essential to be present in each other’s lives—even if it’s not a physical presence yet.
There is no fixed formula in keeping a long distance relationship strong, so pay attention to each other’s goals and expectations. Reach out to each other frequently, whether by call, text, social media, or other means of communication. Just as our faith in God requires constant nurturing through meaninful conversations by prayer, so does a relationship, especially when we don’t get to see each other frequently. Make time for each other, whether through a visit or a virtual movie night, or even just morning and evening phone calls. Shared moments like these will keep the love alive even if we’re far from each other. Take note of each other’s love language, and think about how we can creatively implement that into the current situation. Most of all, we must not forget to put the Lord at the core of our relationship. We can make it a habit to foster our spiritual growth together with our partners, even just virtually. There are many ways in which we can spend time together while nurturing our faith at the same time: virtual devotional sessions, daily rosary together, quick calls during the day for prayer, and even just sending each other an uplifting Bible verse can deepen the foundations of our relationship.
Good God
