Human work is holy as it honors God’s gifts of knowledge, talent, and skill. Through this prayer, may we find the words to ask Jesus for hope, guidance, and the confidence to succeed in our job interview. In seeking a career path with a purpose, it’s also important to be open to God’s will so He can lead us where we will grow and become more fruitful.
Prayer for success at job interview
Lord Jesus Christ,
You, too, worked with Your own hands. From being a humble carpenter in Nazareth to Your earthly ministry, you preached about God’s love, healed the sick, comforted the brokenhearted, and spoke of God’s mercy to sinners. You showed us the meaning of committing ourselves and our God-given gifts to a holy mission.
Finding a job has been challenging for me, Lord. There were times when I fall into the trap of despair, hopelessness, and lack of confidence in my own abilities. Sometimes, I fail to say the right words, and my mind is all over the place. My journey to find my new mission has shown me different faces as well as difficult phases. I may also encounter hard questions that test my patience, my diligence, and my commitment. May this be an opportunity for me to get to know myself better and strive to be better, Lord.
Thank you, Lord, for the skills You have given me. I am also grateful for all the opportunities to use them for your greater glory. My heart feels excited to share the experiences You have blessed me with. May I honestly answer questions that speak of my competence to the best of my abilities.
May you guide me in my job interview, Lord. I wish to effectively showcase these gifts you have entrusted to me by answering every interview question with honesty, clarity, and sincerity. Please bestow upon me good listening skills, the wisdom to provide the best answers, and the patience to find the right job you want for me. I know in my heart that you will lead me to a role where I can maximize my potential to be of service to You and my neighbor.
I beg You to hear my prayer. In Your Holy Name. Amen
Short prayer for success at job interview

Dear Lord, please guide me in my job interview. Grant me the attentiveness to listen and a sharp mind to understand. May I say the right words with honesty as I share my experiences and skills with a potential employer. Please lead me to a role that will give me the opportunity to serve You and my neighbor. I humbly ask this in Thy Holy name. Amen.
The Word of God
My child, do not forget my teaching, but let your heart keep my commandments, for length of days and years of life and abundant welfare they will give you. Do not let loyalty and faithfulness forsake you; bind them around your neck; write them on the tablet of your heart. Then you will find favor and high regard in the sight of God and of people. Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not rely on your own insight. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths. Do not be wise in your own eyes; fear the Lord and turn away from evil. It will be a healing for your flesh and a refreshment for your body. Honor the Lord with your substance and with the first fruits of all your produce; then your barns will be filled with plenty, and your vats will be bursting with wine.
Proverbs 3:1-10, 21-24 NRSVUE
Prayer to Saint Joseph the Worker for the success of the job interview
St. Joseph, you worked with diligence to fulfil your duties as a carpenter. With every wood pieced together, you used your God-given creativity to serve your family and your neighbors. Your work helped them improve their homes and support their daily tasks. Your dedication inspires me to do the same in my pursuit of a job that suits me best.
At times, I may forget my own abilities. I fail to believe in my own skills, and so I tend to speak about them without confidence. There are also instances where I exclude God and my neighbor out of the equation and only think of myself.
Please tell Jesus of my heart’s desires. Your prayers will help me answer each interview question with grace and honesty. I am hoping to land a job where I can partake in God’s creative work, like how you did as a carpenter.
Saint Joseph the Worker, pray for us!
Amen.
Further reflection
The challenges of job hunting can make us feel anxious, especially if there are important things at stake. A job means a lot of things for different people. It can mean our survival, as well as that of those we love and those who depend on us. It can also mean finding a sense of fulfilment or a mission to be of service to others.
In addition, there is also pressure in fulfilling requirements such as crafting a resume, submitting a portfolio, and acing the interviews. The whole experience may feel overwhelming.
So, it’s important to ask God for guidance. This helps us lessen our worries and enables us to focus on doing our best. With God’s guidance, we can answer even the toughest interview questions from the most intimidating interviewers out there.
Before every interview, it can be helpful to go back to our values. Our values will help us find confidence in ourselves.
Let us remember who we are, first and foremost—that we are God’s children and that He loves us dearly. Let us also remember that as a faithful Father to His children, God has provided us with the gifts we need to live a life of meaning and of service. He blesses us with experiences, knowledge, and skills to enrich our lives and the lives of those who surround us.
Let us also find confidence in the fact that our worth as human beings are not defined by worldly titles. We are loved and cherished, regardless of our failures and imperfections. If we feel pressured by the compass, may we be hopeful for the destination that God has mapped out for us. If we feel pressured by the clock, let us remember that we are blessed with enough time to find the role that God has in store for us.
Keeping these truths close to our hearts and minds will help us ease our anxiety. Holding on to them also keeps us grounded and will give us the wisdom to decide the best path to take.
With God as our guide in this pursuit, the journey is all the more meaningful, purpose-filled, and grace-filled.
I thank God because I know I will be successful in this interview
