A baby is a bundle of joy that will bring many adventures into your life, both good and bad. Some couples conceive easily, while others take years or even a couple of decades before they are finally blessed with a baby.
This prayer is for someone trying to get pregnant. At the end of this article, there are a couple of Biblical stories cited that you can reflect on and can hopefully lift your heart and remind you that the time you spend waiting for a bundle of joy is used by God to carefully craft a great plan for you and your family.
Prayer for someone trying to get pregnant
Eternal Lord,
You are the Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end. It was You who inspired many prophets and writers to set Your Word upon ink and paper, guiding their hands through the years as they wrote the story of shame and how it slowly turned into a book of hope.
The Bible tells of Your great mercy and forgiveness. How merciful You are upon us lowly sinners who continue to disobey Your commandments! Gentle is Your hand when punishing us, and great is Your patience when redirecting our paths. Lord God, I know that I cannot hide the darkest parts of my soul from You. I beg You to forgive me my trespasses and sins. I cannot promise perfection, but I can promise improvement and a stronger faith in You. Alone, I cannot pay for the sins I’ve committed. But You have already paid them for me through Jesus’ sacrifice, and my heart swells with thankfulness for Your gift.
There are many more things that I am thankful for: my partner, my family, my friends, and even the world around me. The beauty of my life, which You have made possible despite trying times, never fails to amaze me.
May You bless my womb with fertility, and may new life take root, grow, and bloom from my body…a new life that will be sustained with love and care, and one day, give love and wonder to the world. Dearest God, I earnestly pray for a child whom my partner and I can one day hold, a child that we can nurture into a wonderful Christian servant raised under Your banner.
Lord God, I beg You to hear my fervent wish. Amen.

Short fertility prayer
Father, great is Your faithfulness unto my family and me. Whatever we need, You provide. I beg You to hear me as I express my heart’s greatest desire: to conceive and have a child. I offer You this infertility prayer, my heart swelling with hope that You will hear my plea and grant my wish. I will patiently wait for Your response Lord God, and ‘till then, I will keep my faith strong and my body healthy.
May You finally bless us with a child. Amen.
The Word of God
By faith, with Sarah’s involvement, he received power of procreation, even though he was too old, because he considered him faithful who had promised. Therefore from one person, and this one as good as dead, descendants were born, “as many as the stars of heaven and as the innumerable grains of sand by the seashore.”
Hebrews 11:11-12 NRSVUE
Isaac prayed to the Lord for his wife because she was barren, and the Lord granted his prayer, and his wife Rebekah conceived.
Genesis 25:21 NRSVUE
But the angel said to him, “Do not be afraid, Zechariah, for your prayer has been heard. Your wife Elizabeth will bear you a son, and you will name him John.
Luke 1:13 NRSVUE
Intercessory prayer to Saint Gianna Beretta Molla
Saint Gianna, I admire your unconditional love and dedication toward your children. You worked tirelessly to balance your responsibilities as a mother and as a pediatrician, and you helped countless children with your work. The most remarkable gift you ever gave, however, was a loving sacrifice: as you gave birth to your last child, you confidently told doctors to spare her life even at the cost of yours. Now, you are honored worldwide for your selfless acts of love and care toward children and infants.
I seek your aid in offering to the Almighty God a prayer to conceive. My fruitless attempts have made me feel utterly and completely disheartened, but I know that His plan will be followed, and He might have something greater planned for me.
Saint Gianna, please join me in this humble and hopeful fertility prayer. Hear my tearful plea and pray for my spouse and me.
Further reflection
If you struggle with the back-breaking cross of infertility, there are a few Biblical figures and stories you can reflect on, each providing valuable lessons not only on fertility but also about living a spiritual life.
Mary, the mother of Jesus, did not ask for a child. She was still a virgin when she conceived Jesus, and while her pregnancy was unexpected, it was blessed beyond all, for she was carrying a baby boy, the Messiah, who was the prophesied Savior and conqueror of evil, the One whose heel will finally crush the serpent. Her story teaches that a baby can come in the most unexpected of times…but it will be in God’s perfect timing, and you will soon witness His plans for you, your partner, and your family slowly unfold.
Abraham and Sarah were already very old when they had Isaac, and they even laughed when the Lord told them that they were to conceive a child. Isaac, whose name means ‘the laughing one’, being born was the miraculous manifestation of God’s promise. The moral from this is that there is no such thing as ‘too much time’ when it comes to waiting for God’s answer: be patient and keep the faith in Him, and however and whenever He answers, it will be for the best.
When Isaac was 40, he and his wife Rebekah prayed for a child, and they were blessed with not one but two–Esau and Jacob. The essence of their experience is that prayer is powerful. However, don’t expect immediate results, or even the results you originally asked for: God knows best, and his response can come in different forms: ‘Yes’, ‘No,” and ‘Not yet.
When trying to conceive, remember to take care of your physical and mental health. It’s easy to chase your goals and become obsessed with things like tracking your periods and consuming foods and supplements that increase fertility and chances of conception but don’t forget to take care of your overall health too. Eat a balanced diet, and don’t get too carried away. Furthermore, beware of misleading infertility articles online. Take the time to cross-check the facts or, even better, seek the advice of a qualified medical professional to ensure your health and safety and to make your efforts more effective.
Lastly, remember to talk to the Lord through daily prayers for trying to conceive–not only will it help you express the desires of your heart, but it will also help to keep you happy, patient, and motivated through the journey.
