The most precious gift that God has ever given us is life. Therefore, it is appropriate to give thanks to the Lord for bestowing upon our loved ones and us this invaluable gift of life. Our simple and humble manner of bringing glory and honor to God is by being grateful to Him for giving us life.
Life is a precious gift from God, and we must rejoice in it. We celebrate our birthday, the day we first glimpsed the light of this world, with gladness because of this. Moreso, for siblings who are always there for each other, the gift of life shared by being siblings is even more celebrated.
Parties, delicious food, and gatherings of families and friends in a cheerful atmosphere are the norm for celebrations. But the most significant thing is when we remember and pray for our brother. These brother’s life.
A thanksgiving prayer on my Brother’s Birthday
O most loving and ever-faithful God, I thank and worship You for the gift of life. We are grateful that You have allowed us to enjoy life and behold the splendor of Your creation. We exalt Your holy and venerable name for sharing this most priceless gift with us.
Lord God, many years ago on this same day, You willed that my brother be born into this world. We give thanks for Your kindness and compassion for the gift of life for my brother. He has been the best brother anyone could ask for. In good and difficult times, He is always there for us as our rock. I humbly offer You, Lord, this very special prayer for him because he deserves to experience the affection of everyone he shows love to today.
We commemorate my brother’s birthday today. My heart is overflowing with gratitude for my incredible and generous brother. Any sister or brother would be lucky to have him as their brother. Please remind me to thank him every day, but especially on this day. I hope I can convey to him how much I value and care for him.
Words cannot express my gratitude to You, Father, for the gift of my brother. In the person of my brother, You blessed me with a good friend who is loving, caring, and selfless. I received more than I asked for from you. I think about how kind You are to our family and the people in our community for allowing us to experience my brother’s love and goodness today. Father, please give my brother the wisdom he needs so that he may always be led in the right direction. May he constantly enjoy Your favor and love. May this day be the beginning of better opportunities and surprises for him. May he grow in wisdom, in understanding, and in a deeper love for You. I hope he will always remember this year with gratitude and joy when he looks back. May he spend many more years in Your love and company. May he always be humble and full of gratitude for Your kindness and benevolence.

Prayer to Saint Benedict for my brother
Dear Saint Benedict, beloved brother of another great saint, saint Scholastica, you lived a life of holiness and faithfulness to God. Your holiness inspired your sister to also live in obedience to Christ the Lord. Praise be to God for gifting us a holy man like you!
Saint Benedict, hear our humble prayers and petitions. As you have led a holy life, please pray for my brother so that he, too, may live a life like yours. Lead him to a deeper and more personal relationship with the Lord God. Pray for him that he may always direct his way toward a closer relationship with God. I pray that he may love God above everything else and that my brother’s experience of God’s love is extended to the people dear to my brother.
Please pray for him to God that he may remain faithful and committed to the Lord. May he be inspired by your life and examples. Please encourage him to be holy and to follow the Lord with all his might. Through your powerful intercession, may my brother be blessed with all the good things he needs.

Further reflection
We commemorate birthdays in order to recognize the moment when a unique person enters the world. On this specific day, they were born, and that is reason enough to celebrate. Birthdays are a perfect opportunity for us to express our gratitude to God for all of His benefits, including the life He has given us.
For siblings in the family, celebrations like birthdays should be celebrated as if it is the birthday of them all. The life of one should be celebrated by all of them. As they share the bond as brothers and sisters, they also share the joy of each other’s life.
May we be reminded of God’s goodness to our brothers as we celebrate the day of their birth and how they are a gift and blessing to others. We will also receive the blessing if we ask Him to bless our brothers much more. Praise the Lord for providing us with a kind sibling, friend, and companion.
