Children are the apple of Jesus’ eye, and during His stay on earth, He treated them like the most precious of jewels. He even instructed that parents should not burden children and instead bring them up in the ways of the Lord and nurture their souls with His Holy Word.
Waking up early in the morning after a good, long sleep may not be every kid’s cup of tea, but the sun brings with it a new day for them to go out, learn, socialize, and become their best selves. Teaching them this kids morning prayer can help them develop the habit of thanking God and asking Him for guidance each passing day.
This morning prayer for kids can help them grow spiritually as much as they grow physically and mentally.
Children’s morning prayers
God our Father,
You are as peaceful as a stream and as powerful as a river. I ask for forgiveness for all my sins. Lord God, help me learn from my mistakes and improve myself so that I can inspire others to repent too.
Thank You for showering me with blessings every day. Thank You for a new day that I can use to glorify You and do good works. I look forward to all the fun and new opportunities this morning promises.
Protect my family and me and help our household prosper. May You also bless my friends with happiness and love and nurture our friendships so that we will have many more days to play, learn, and grow together. Guide me as I go to school and learn new things. I hope that one day, I can achieve my dreams and become the person I aspire to be: a successful but humble Christian who will help others meet You.
I also pray for the safety and happiness of other children around the world. I know that many of them are in bad situations, but I hope that You will grant them a warm home and a loving family and protect them from any danger or misfortune.
May You guide me throughout my whole life and always watch over me.
In Jesus’ Name, I pray.
Amen.
Heavenly Father,
Thank You for the marvelous love you use to nurture us and help us grow spiritually. As I wake up to a beautiful morning, I pray that You will guide and protect me as I make the most out of my day. I hope that it will bring me many opportunities to learn, play, and enjoy my life and the blessings You’ve given me. Forgive me for my sins. I place my faith and trust in my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, the only one who can give me eternal life in Heaven. Watch over my loved ones and me as we go about our day. I know that You are always watching over me, protecting me from evil and temptation. Thank You for everything, always.
Amen.
Short children’s morning prayers

Lord God,
The sun smiles down on me because a new day has arrived, promising new adventures. As my family and me go about our daily tasks, may You watch over us and keep us safe. Help me learn, excel, and have fun at school, always ready to apply my knowledge. Bless my loved ones and me with good health and happiness. Watch over all the other children in different parts of the world and shower us with Your love and care. I hope this prayer brightens their day too.
Amen.
The Word of God
And, fathers, do not provoke your children to anger, but bring them up in the discipline and instruction of the Lord.
Ephesians 6:4 NRSVUE
People were bringing children to him in order that he might touch them, and the disciples spoke sternly to them. But when Jesus saw this, he was indignant and said to them, “Let the children come to me; do not stop them, for it is to such as these that the kingdom of God belongs. Truly I tell you, whoever does not receive the kingdom of God as a little child will never enter it.” And he took them up in his arms, laid his hands on them, and blessed them.
Mark 10:13-16 NRSVUE
“Take care that you do not despise one of these little ones, for I tell you, in heaven their angels continually see the face of my Father in heaven.
Matthew 18:10 NRSVUE
Intercessory prayer to Saint Nicholas of Myra
Blessed Saint Nicholas,
Thank you for watching over children from all over the world. It makes me happy that You continuously pray to the Lord for our protection and that You spread the good news of other kids being blessed with a better life after all their suffering.
Before I begin my day, I ask for Your help in praying to the Lord for His guidance and protection. May He watch over my friends and me as I learn and play at school and protect my family members as we each do our own tasks. Help me show my gratitude to Him because He blessed my life with so many wonderful and caring people.
May God also shower me with so many beautiful blessings so that I can share them with other people and help them feel happy and never alone. May He use me to bring joy to the lives of other people who are less fortunate than I am. May He protect all my fellow children, especially those who are suffering from wars, famine, drought, and other problems. I offer this short morning prayer for kids like me—kids who start small but dream big. I may be young, small, and inexperienced, but I know that I can do great things in His Name.
I hope that I will come home at the end of the day with a happy and grateful heart, with a warm home and a loving family waiting to embrace me.
Saint Nicholas, pray for me. Amen.
Further reflection
In the Bible, Jesus was close to the children, freely welcoming them into His arms with love and care. He set the little ones as an example of innocence and purity, a standard for those who wish to enter the gates of Heaven.
Children may be young, but they are at a phase in their life where they learn the most and develop habits, many of which they will carry on into adulthood. Practicing gratitude and fostering a connection with God at an early age can be beneficial to them later on and mold them into responsible teenagers and adults in the future.
Morning prayers are an excellent way to help them know God and incorporate His Word into their lives from an early age. These morning prayers can be accompanied by Christian songs for children to liven up their mornings and energize them for a day full of exploration and learning. Family devotions are also a great way to start mornings as a family.
With each sunrise, may every child grow ever closer to the Lord so that they may grow up one day to teach their own children and other people about God’s great sacrifice and legacy.
