Catholic prayer for diabetes

Our sicknesses and ailments usually lead to the deterioration of our health. The weakening of the immune system makes the body more prone to sickness. Inflammation or swelling of certain parts of the body may hinder basic bodily functions. Having too much or too little nutrients in our body disrupts its natural balance. Our health is truly a wealth worth investing in. Yet when everything becomes too painful, too difficult, and too weak, it is the perfect time for us to gaze on the man on the Cross. In His woundedness, Christ covers our wounds from sin. At the height of His pain, He embraced all our pain from guilt. When He breathed His last, we were offered to obtain eternal life with Him in heaven.

We offer this prayer for diabetics. Diabetes is a sickness that can change us entirely. It affects our activities, food choices, the lifestyle we want to live, and the routine intake of medicines and periodical check-ups. Diabetes can be a heavy cross that we bear. In offering this prayer for healing diabetes, it would be best to pray before a crucifix. Only on the crucifix do we see a man who loved us from the beginning with no end. We see the fulfillment of God’s promise to those faithful to Him. We see a friend who will always accompany us in carrying the cross through sickness and health.

Prayer for diabetics

Loving Christ on the Cross,

As I prayerfully gaze on Your cross, kindly hear my prayer for diabetes. I long for the grace of patience and perseverance to endure the cross that I am carrying. It has burdened me so much that it has altered my way of living. It changed my diet and how I view food. It transformed how I value life as a gift from You. The heaviness of my cross also affected the people around me: my family, my friends, and my acquaintances who are dear to me. You have also sent some generous people as angels in disguise who offered help when I needed it the most. Your gentle mercy and abounding grace flowed through the various people in my life. I am very grateful for them.

As I gently hold the crucifix, I recognize my weaknesses. I oftentimes dwell on my weak and ailing body. I am sometimes overwhelmed with sadness as I realize how my life is slowly becoming more difficult. I sometimes feel jealous of how carefree other people are. I am sometimes consumed with doubt about why I have to bear such a heavy burden. My faith has somehow dwindled, and its flames are flickering within the darkness of my heart. I may have been too comfortable in the darkness of my sickness. I acknowledge these and, in Your mercy, do I seek Your loving comfort and gracious consolation. Hide me within the wounds You bore on the cross. Be my help in lifting this heavy cross of mine. Grant me hope at this low point in my life.

As I feel Your presence in this prayer for diabetics, I also bring to Your generous care those who bear the same cross as mine. I offer to You the people whom I know who are diagnosed with diabetes. I bring to You the diabetic people in hospitals who are seeking proper health care. May they also find Your warm comfort and generous consolation in Your suffering and offering on the cross. Grant them hope to live in accordance with the will of God. May You also grant strength and protection to their caregivers who patiently attend to their needs. Let Your cross be their sign of hope and of inspiration to live fully and to love deeply as You did.

Allow my prayer to resound within God’s heavenly courts as I make this prayer through the powerful name of Christ.

Amen.

The Word of God

Come to me, all you who are weary and are carrying heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.

Catholic prayer to Saint Josemaria Escriva for diabetes

O miraculous Saint Josemaria Escriva, I come before you to seek your inspiration and strength in carrying this heavy burden of mine: my diabetes. If God allows it, I hope to be healed from this sickness through your powerful intercession. May you always lead me towards perseverance and fidelity in doing God’s work every day. Let my weakness hinder me not from following God’s footsteps. May I soon realize that the cross that I am carrying allows me to share in the sufferings of Christ. And in hope, I may also share His glory, together with you, in heaven.

Saint Josemaria Escriva, you yourself suffered from diabetes. You endured the tribulations and sacrifices of being diagnosed with this disease like mine. You bore it patiently and even embraced it as you continued on with your priestly ministry. Through God’s intervention, you were miraculously healed from diabetes, for He had seen your unwavering faith in Him through Jesus on the cross and through your generous love and care for the poor. You embraced your cross, and it never hindered you in continuing to be an instrument of God’s love and mercy on earth. I hope to obtain the necessary graces to lead a life like yours, o Saint Josemaria Escriva. Help me to embrace my cross fully in leading a life worthy before the eyes of God.

Allow my prayer for diabetics to console those who are carrying this sickness. May my prayer accompany them in their journey in life. May it inspire them to see their sufferings as sharing with the sufferings of Christ on the cross. Through your intercession, may you also grant them the graces they need to fully embrace the cross of their sickness. May they also lead a life worthy of God at the service of His people.

Saint Josemaria Escriva, patron saint of diabetic patients, pray for us.

Amen.

Further reflection

Our sicknesses and sufferings may discourage us from living our lives to the fullest. They may deteriorate our physical body, but they should not shake our faith in God. It is a cross that we bear in life as we follow in the footsteps of Christ. Christ freely bore the cross of our sins for us. He endured the heaviness of guilt for our sins. He was accused falsely and yet responded meekly before the unjust jury. He knew about the sufferings that He would endure in Jerusalem, but His filial obedience to God’s will made Him embrace the heavy cross of suffering.

As we made our prayer for those with diabetes with a cross in hand, may we be reminded of the sufferings of Christ. May we see that our sufferings are the same suffering that He endured for us. Through this, we become sharers of Christ’s suffering, and we hope to share also in His glory in heaven. Let us offer to God the pain that we constantly feel for the sanctification of the world. Let us offer to God the suffering that we endure every day for the conversion of sinners everywhere. In this way of offering our cross, we gradually consecrate the whole world and ourselves to God.

May our sufferings also lead us to reflect on the value of life as God’s gift to us. May we come to realize how God never abandoned us in our sufferings, for He has made his presence known through the people who cared and tended to our needs. God has made His generous love known to the people we least expect to care for us. May we see God’s providential hand working in every day of our lives. May our faith fuel our burning hope for healing and for eternal life with God within His heavenly courts. May we pray unceasingly and work patiently, whatever the cost may be.

  2. I thank God, and Saint Jose escriva for reviving my son at deaths door. When they brought him into the emergency room he was seizing. I immediately found an old folding chair in one corner. And I had here only a few weeks before about the prayer to
Saint Escriva that made him a Saint. All I remember were a few words. The doctor came out and said my would probably not make it. The doctor went back in all I could do was keep thinking about Saint Jose escriva
The next thing I knew the doctor came out and said his kidneys has started functioning again. We went home to get some sleep and the next day when he was in ICU he stood up in bed and urinated and the doctor said he probably would not be right the rest of his life you see he was just 18 years of age or so well my wife refused to believe the doctor anyway he came out of it and he’s working adult with a little girl now doing wonderfully amen thank you God and Saint Jose Escriva.

  5. I have suffered with Type 2 diabetes since 2005. Despite the fact that I have this disease, I’m doing my very best to live a good life. I know that God has sustained me in my suffering and that, through the intercession of St. Josemaria Escriva, I’m able to bear my burden better.
I sincerely hope that this disease will no longer be in the existence of all humankind.
