Easter Sunday prayers of joy

Easter Sunday is the Church’s celebration of the glorious resurrection of the Lord Jesus Christ from the dead. According to Catholic tradition, Easter commemorates the Lord Jesus Christ’s resurrection from the grave three days after His crucifixion; it is one of the central feasts of the Christian liturgical year. The resurrection is viewed as a victory over sin and death and as evidence of Jesus’ divinity and mission on earth. Catholic doctrine holds that through His death and resurrection, Jesus Christ atoned for humanity’s sins, defeated death, and made it possible for everyone to experience eternal life with God. The Church also holds that the resurrection was an actual event that truly happened, not just a metaphor or an allegory.

Easter is observed as a time of spiritual renewal, and to strengthen their relationship with God, Catholics partake in special rituals and sacraments like the Mass, confession, and communion. Christians express their faith in the resurrection and the hope it gives, specifically the promise of eternal life, by participating in the Easter celebration. As a devout Catholic, Easter prayers are a vital component of the celebration of this most solemn season of the Church calendar.

Easter prayer

Lord God, all-loving and merciful Father, our hearts are filled with joy and gratitude this day. Today, we commemorate the glorious resurrection of Your Son and our Redeemer, Jesus Christ the Lord. We give You thanks for in our sinful and broken state, You did not abandon us. Instead, You have given us Your Son, who offered His life for our salvation. Praise and glory to You forever!

This day reminds us of the gift of salvation that You have given us through Christ. We thank You for His selfless sacrifice on the cross. Thank You for the forgiveness and atonement He has won for us. We thank You for the hope that His resurrection brings.

Lord God, may this yearly celebration of Easter bring us renewal in spirit. Grant us the grace to constantly be reminded of the price Christ had to pay for our salvation. May we always put our hope in His resurrection.

We desire to follow Christ, Your Son. Please grant us the humility to submit ourselves to Your will as He has submitted His to Yours. Grant us the courage to face our sufferings and unite them with Christ’s passion. Grant us strength to carry our crosses and follow in the footsteps of Jesus.

Send us Your Spirit that we may be transformed into the person You desire us to be. Continue to guide us as we face our own sufferings. Be with us always. Strengthen us when we are weak. Lift us up when we fall under the weight of the cross. Fill us with Your peace and assuring love.

May we experience the renewing power of Easter every day of our lives. Humbled by Your mercy, we implore that You continue to help us live our lives in a way that honors You and reflects the love of Christ – a love that knows no limits.

In the face of suffering and challenges, grant us the grace to be patient. In our sorrows and struggles, be with us. In all the trials and difficulties of life, may we be reminded that an Easter morning is waiting for us.

We ask all these through Your Son and our Savior, Jesus Christ, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, God, forever and ever. Amen.

The Word of God

But the angel said to the women, “Do not be afraid, for I know that you are looking for Jesus who was crucified. He is not here, for he has been raised, as he said. Come, see the place where he lay. Then go quickly and tell his disciples, ‘He has been raised from the dead, and indeed he is going ahead of you to Galilee; there you will see him.’”

Matthew 28:5-7 NRSVUE

So if anyone is in Christ, there is a new creation: everything old has passed away; look, new things have come into being!

2 Corinthians 5:17 NRSVUE

Prayer to Saint Mary Magdalene on Easter Sunday

Dear Saint Mary Magdalene, at the foot of the cross, you stood while the Lord Jesus Christ fulfilled the sacrifice of our redemption. You were there sharing the sorrow of the Holy Mother of God. You were there, brokenhearted to see the Master slowly and painfully drawing His last breath. Yet, in full faith and courage, you stayed by the side of the Lord until the very end.

Your faithfulness rewarded you with encountering the Risen Christ. Oh, we could only imagine the immense joy you must have felt at the sight of the Resurrected Savior! Now, you share the Master’s joy in the halls of the eternal kingdom of heaven.

Hear us, we pray, as we celebrate with joyful hearts the resurrection of Christ. May your witness to the incredible power of the love of Christ and the glory of His resurrection fill us with renewed faith and perseverance to follow in His every footstep. May we constantly be reminded of the reality of His love, and may this reality serve as the cornerstone for all of our thoughts, words, and deeds.

We beg your intercession on behalf of everyone suffering and needing comfort, hope, and healing. May people experience the transforming power of Christ’s love in their lives and find comfort in the knowledge that he rose from the dead.

Saint Mary Magdalene, pray for us. Amen.
