Prayer for hair growth

Our hair is primarily a layer of protection for every part of our body, especially our heads. It keeps our head warm and protects it from the sun’s harmful rays. It also provides some cushioning to our skulls whenever accidents happen. God has designed us logically and perfectly to adapt to various weather conditions.

The hair on our heads is also an object of beauty and self-expression. It enhances our facial features. We often do various styles on our hair to express our personalities, for it is the first thing we see in others. Some prefer an extravagant hairstyle or hairdo, while others prefer a neat natural cut. Some people choose to dye their hair with bright and eye-catching and sometimes multi-colored colors, while others prefer their natural given color.

Hair also has biblical meanings and spiritual significance, which influenced the lifestyles of people under different epochs of our rich history as a church. Long hair sometimes meant faithfulness and devotion for those who dedicated themselves to God. Samson’s long hair provided him with the strength of a thousand men. On the other hand, cutting or shaving one’s hair would often mean admission of guilt or as a price for the sins committed. It could also mean one’s willful denial of earthly vanities to incline one’s soul closer to God.

Seeing how our hair affects our lives, it is easy to understand how difficult it is to suffer from a disease or condition like alopecia, where our hair can literally fall out overnight. Some people with cancer have to deal with losing their hair as they fight cancer with treatment. We offer this prayer for healthy hair for these people and anyone going through any hair loss condition. We ask God to aid us through His grace in nurturing our scalps to allow ample growth for our hair. In our dependence on God through this particular intention, may we attain the grace we beg for and grow closer to Him.

Prayer for hair loss

God, our Heavenly Father,

I come to you in need of your grace, particularly for my intention to have healthy hair growth after losing my hair. I continuously thank you for the gift of Your creation. Through it, I have the resources to treat my current hair situation. May Your healing grace continue to work through medical and hair professionals as they also continue to help others who are facing the same predicament that I have been in recently.

In my offering of this prayer for hair growth, allow my hair to grow strong from its roots, dear Father, that my faith in You may also flourish from the depths of my heart. My unwavering gratitude for the gift of Your creation aided me in coping with my current condition. May you also attend to the needs of those who are praying for hair growth. Let them see the bounties of your creation made available through human technologies and advancements. Through the products of your design, may they regain their confidence once more and lead them to praise You in thanksgiving.

Prayer to Saint Agnes of Rome for hair loss

Saint Agnes of Rome, the unblemished daughter of Christ, I seek your intercession for my hair to grow healthily. Being faithful and chaste before the eyes of the Lord, you found favor in Him. I offer to you my prayers that you may intercede for me with Christ Jesus. The surety of your help and inspiration may continuously guide and nourish my faith in Christ.

Dear Saint Agnes of Rome, it was known that through the shining example of your faith and trust in God allowed you to exude His miracles. In his evil desperation and anger, you were dragged outside naked by your suitor. He wanted to humiliate you before the crowds for outrightly denying his hand for marriage, but God protected and preserved you before the glaring eyes of the onlookers. God made the hair of your body grow long enough to cover you and protect you.

I long to obtain the grace of your gentle disposition and filial trust before God. May your shining example light my path toward righteousness and help me grow into a loving child of the Father. May my faith take root deep within my heart as the follicles of my hair cling to their roots. May my relationship with Christ be strengthened like those of the strands of my hair. May the healthy growth of my hair be the shining crown of your faithfulness and grace in my life. I hope to obtain the grace which I ask from this humble prayer of mine in your perfect timing. Amen.

Further reflection

The hair on our heads is intrinsically connected with our self-confidence. Not only do they serve as a fundamental layer of protection for our skull to protect our brain, but they also bear a multitude of spiritual significance, self-expression, and personality.

Our hair is also a sign of God’s unfailing protection. Christ assured His apostles that not one strand of their hair would be touched nor destroyed as they were sent out to proclaim the good news to every corner of the world. The total obedience and free offering of the apostles are precious before the eyes of God that every single cell or every strand of their hair is accounted for the merits of Heaven.

Lastly, our hair is a sign of God’s intimacy with us. It is known that each and every human being is unique. No two people bear the same fingerprint. God has uniquely designed us, and He knows us through and through. He designed every individual strand of our hair to function accordingly. He knows each one of us individually thus, we continue to trust in His paternal concern and love for us.
