Prayer to purchase a house that God wants for me

Purchasing your very first home or moving from your existing home to a new one is recognised as one of life’s most stressful events. At times of high stress and anxiety, it’s important to reach out to God and hand all your worries and expectations over to Him.

In this prayer, we provide the words to help you express your desire for the purchase of a new home. You might be downsizing to something more manageable later in life, starting out in the first home you own, or perhaps something in between. None of that matters for this prayer to help. What’s important is that you’re open to God’s will.

Prayer to purchase a house

Lord Jesus Christ,

Your love for the homeless and travel weary knows no bounds. During your time on earth, You travelled from house to house, often weary from your mission. You welcomed a warm meal and a roof over your head. You desire happy, holy homes where You are welcome.

I have not always welcomed the weary traveller into my home and offered them food and rest. I did not see You in my neighbour when they looked for help. Let this new opportunity to purchase a house be a new beginning for my family and me to always keep our door open for You, Lord Jesus, in whoever arrives at our door.

Thank you, Lord Jesus, for the home I currently have and for all the blessings you bestow on my family and me. You never turn away a sinner from your endless mercy; I know you will not now ignore my plea.

My wish to purchase a house can only be fulfilled by your will, my Lord and God. I earnestly desire your help and guidance during this entire process of buying a home. Please bless me with the wisdom to make the right decisions, the patience to wait for the perfect house for your plan for my life, and the strength of will to act when I need to.

Prayer to Saint Joseph for the purchase of a house

St. Joseph, you provided a house and home for the child Jesus and your most chaste spouse, the Blessed Virgin Mary. During times of great joy and sorrow, you sheltered and kept the Holy Family safe. You provide a model for me and the home I desire to purchase.

I have not always been able to provide the same loving care for myself, my family or my friends. At times I have let worry and doubt into my decision to purchase a new home.

Your prayers are always heard fondly by Jesus. I know that with you praying for me, Saint Joseph, I will grow closer to God’s will each and every day.

Please, Saint Joseph, protector of the Holy Family. Protect my family and me as I make these difficult decisions. I earnestly desire your protection and guidance as I attempt to purchase a house.

Saint Joseph, pray for us!

Further reflection

The stress and anxiety around purchasing a house can be overwhelming and can take their toll on our relationships and even our relationship with God. Are we finding enough time for daily prayer with God? Are we taking every opportunity to talk to God about all the choices and decisions we have to make with purchasing our new home?

God is always with us and wants what is best for us. At times during the purchase of a house, things don’t go according to our plans, but we must remain open to God’s plan for our life. What might seem like the ideal house could, in fact, lead us down the wrong path. Let us not become obsessed with what we think is best, and let us be open to whatever God’s will is.

It’s important not to take on all the burdens and stress of house buying. Seeking help from family and friends is one of the best ways to make the entire experience more manageable.

Purchasing a house might be a once-in-a-lifetime experience. Try to take some time to enjoy the new experience and look for ways to bring your relationship with Jesus into every moment.
